Publication: ANYWHEN VOLUME I
55-Page Independant Photographic Essay
What began as an attempt to organize all of my photographic material from the past few years into mass amounts of folders, categorized by locations and dates, had eventually forced me to lose the initial feelings felt when the photographs were originally taken. Moments that were filled with such life were now stored away in boxes underneath my staircase or deep into some file on my computer. Always hoping that these experiences, being durable, will not leave me without photographs, also know that this moment in time will only vanish soon, which led me to begin a long-awaited project —
ANYWHEN; a bi-annual printed publication.
For me, a magazine represents reality. There is an engagement with print that one cannot experience while viewing the same material through a screen. Inside this first volume, the photographs transcend being a mere collection from my archive; instead, they become a surface that offers viewers a window into their own memories. Sorting through all of my old prints, strips of film, hard drives, etc., while putting this together has been a huge yet rewarding project during this time of quarantine, for sure. This period of emptiness has provided me with the opportunity to sift through these images and create a new visual relationship between them as they move across spreads, redefining themselves and each other on the pages.
